It is a commonly known fact that accidents on the road can lead to some of the worst injuries that are possible, including death or leading to long spells in rehabilitation. Looking after yourself and being careful on the road is generally a given, but it is still likely that people will not be as careful as they can be when they are driving or crossing the road. Understanding the importance of safety and how serious the problem of car accidents is could lead to hundreds or even thousands of lives being saved every year.

Quite clearly, the safest way to avoid car and other automotive accidents is to reduce the risks that are taken on the road. These are usually very simple things, for example when walking across a road do not risk crossing if there is a car in sight, even if it appears to be far away. Often it is difficult to judge the speed of a vehicle when it is approaching, and it may appear more quickly that expected. When driving any vehicle it is important to make sure the car does not pull out too quickly at a junction, as there could be small vehicles or bikes that may have been difficult to see.

Although cars are getting safer and people are aware of the safety hazards, there are still accidents on the road every single day. The very large majority of these accidents are completely preventable, and if drivers and passengers are extra careful and take more precautions there are bound to be fewer deaths on the roads in this country.

Simple things can increase safety, for example following the speed limits and staying under 30 miles per hour in residential areas. These things seem obvious but they are flouted every day – and drivers who do speed could end up with much larger problems than points on their license. Another piece of advice is not to drive after drinking, even if it is the next morning and you feel completely fine. Reactions will still be slower if the alcohol is in the body’s system, and this could lead to very serious injury and even death.
A final piece of advice is to remember that other people may not be being careful – so look out for bad drivers and stay away from them, in order to keep yourself safe on the road.

Although it may seem daunting at first, changing your motorbike forks seals is relatively easy. The first step you need to do is to find out whether or not your fork seals are leaking:

*Pump your forks up and down for a period of around 30 seconds if after this, there is any residue left your seals need replacing. (A quick but not permanent fix can be to insert a paper clip between the stanchion and the seal, try to clear out any bits that might be causing the seal to fail.)

To replace the seals you will need to do the following:
*Partially unscrew the allen key bolt at the bottom (this will stop the internals spinning once the top is released)
*Release the top bolt. (There maybe some pressure remaining so take care)
*Drain the oil (You might as well replace the oil at the same time, as this needs replacing every 4000 miles or so)
*Pull apart the two forks (3 good yanks should do it)
*Take of the old seal and replace it.

Final steps involve doing the above in reverse order. Please take a note on the order your parts come out!

My husband and I had talked about getting a couple of motorbikes and touring the country one summer for years. But, as the children continued to come and we got caught up in daily activities the dream was pushed to the back burner.

Two Christmases ago my husband covered my eyes and led me to the driveway. There sat two Honda motorbikes, one was black and red and the other was black and pink including matching leathers and helmets, bike insurance and all the necessary equipment. I couldn’t believe he’d done it. He said since Matthew was going to be gone on a trip to France this summer and all of the other kids were in college he didn’t see a reason we couldn’t take to the roads.

I was stunned, nervous and excited!

So after much planning, getting equipment together and obtaining bike insurance we decided to tour twenty states. Staying in each one for at least a day to rest. Considering the occasional rain storm it was the best summer I’d had in years. There is nothing like feeling the wind hit your face without inhibitions and just going wherever the road takes you. Well we weren’t actually that free. We had an itinerary that we stuck too but, it will be a trip that I’ll always remember.

If you have recently purchased a new motorcycle, you will most likely be looking for a decent bike insurance policy. I won’t bother going in to the value and importance I place on bike insurance (or any types of insurance for that matter), because you should know by now that I always recommend having it. Therefore, this article will look at the ways you could go about finding a great deal on your bike insurance. Sometimes, you will be required to look around a number of different places, but more often than not, you will find a great “special” or “package” with just a little bit of effort Let me show you how.

As is usual, I recommend you head straight to a major search engine, and type in a very specific term to find specials on your bike insurance premiums. Such terms could include “bike insurance specials” or “cheap bike insurance”. Anything like this will do. Once you have the list of results, you need to filter out the garbage from the genuine offers. To do this, search through the list of results, and take a look at the descriptions listed with each result listing. Sometimes, big search engines tend to take keywords from incorrect sites, so instead of your term resulting in results for “cheap bike insurance” being motorbikes, it will return listings for mountain bikes or the like.

You can avoid this by making your search term even more specific. In my mind, the more specific the better. Hence, using the term “cheap motorcycle insurance packages” will return extremely targeted results, and no doubt you will find something from here. Just remember - motorbikes must be insured! Treat it like you would a car or a boat. They are valuable, and at a high risk of damage.

It used to be that a motorcycle was a piece of raw engineering. It represented a powerful, staunch, and muscley image, and gave riders the feeling of freedom from the rest of the world. I should know - I used to own one! However, with the developments of the technological age, motorbikes became the subject of new enhancements and additions - ultimately resulting in what we now refer to as the motorcycle. If you were to walk in to a motorbike retailer today and view some of the models on display - you would soon see that the technological additions which have been made are vast. In this article, let’s go through two of these changes, and see how they have enhanced the safety and usability of motorbikes in the modern day.

Firstly, and something which people tend to put quite a bit of value on - is the inclusion of airbags in motorbikes. If you are wondering how on earth it is possible to include an airbag in a motorcycle design, let me assure you - the designers definitely had to think about it for a bit too. Eventually, it was decided that an airbag could be efficient if placed in to the same (approximately) place as in a car. The logic behind this is that if a minor crash occurs in which the rider would usually be thrown forward and over the handle bars, the airbag would prevent the rider from going the whole way.

Another safety feature is along the same lines as electronic stability control in cars. On motorcycles, there are only two wheels, so this certainly minimizes the chances of an individual wheel losing grip. However, it is still possible in certain circumstances - and hence developers have now included the program in motorbike computer systems.

It has been a hot topic in recent times - are motorbikes so much more fuel efficient than cars? To get straight in to this topic - I will give a straight up answer to this - yes! Of course, depending on your situation (as I have touched on in previous articles), it may not be just the fuel efficiency you need to take in to account here. Of course, large families which sell their car or cars to purchase a motorbike will almost certainly be worse off. But let’s stay away from that idea, and look at just a single person, living alone.

For this single person to switch, the efficiencies would be greatly discovered. Firstly, motorcycles use a quarter of the fuel that cars use - to travel the same distance. With fuel prices constantly fluctuating as if there was no tomorrow, it’s very difficult to predict the price you will be paying at the pump. Whilst this doesn’t affect some people, others will need to plan and budget for these costs. Having a motorcycle instead of a car will help in this budgeting process, because the relative amounts you are spending on petrol will be far less.

Another thing to know when buying a motor bike is that bike insurance is generally less than car insurance. This is a very big generalization, but it is true most of the time. It is especially true if you find yourself downgrading the price of your car to the price of your motorbike. What I mean is - if you have a car valued at $30,000 and you then decide to sell it and switch to a motorbike, it’s most unlikely that you will buy a bike for $30,000 also. For a very good motorcycle, you could expect to pay $10,000 to $15,000. Hence, this automatically saves you $15,000 or so! This is before the fuel savings and the lower. insurance premiums.

As we continue to head through the recent financial crisis, and on the back of oil prices being at their highest levels in decades - most people are now beginning to take a good look at a simple term called “efficiency”. As consumers hunt for ways to cut costs, most of them are thinking of new ways they can make their daily activities more efficient, without having to sacrifice too much, or face too much inconvenience. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the car vs motorbike trade off wins the discussion medal for the “modes of transport” topic. Indeed, families are considering the switch from fuel guzzling cars to fuel efficient motorcycles - in order to get them to and from work.

Let’s take a closer look at this switch. What implications would it have for a family? We will look at a family with and without children. Ok, so beginning with the family without children - switching from the nice fast coupe to a motorcycle. Obviously, the motorcycle would have to be shared, because there is more than one person in a family. This automatically presents an issue. Additionally, as only two people can ride on a motorcycle at once, the issues surrounding the movement of groups of people will surely be one of the biggest turn-offs in the swap.

Secondly, the family with children. As you may have gathered from the stance I took on the average “family” above - with no children - swapping the people mover for an efficient motorcycle may actually work out to be far less efficient. Families with children often need to do much more travelling, with many more people, than an equivalent family without children. Hence once again, I would caution against the swap over for these people.

If you have been considering the purchase of a motorcycle for some time, now may be the perfect time to act on those thoughts and grab yourself one. With the market for motorcycles currently lighter than usual, prices are falling to encourage more and more people to buy from retail stores and motorbike houses. Even online sales of motorbikes have fallen, prompting people who are selling their bikes privately to lower the prices. So, knowing that prices are dropping across the board, how can you suitably take advantage of this, in order to get yourself the best deal possible? Well, let’s discuss that in this article.

Firstly, you need to decide on what it is you want from your motorbike. Do you want one which is extremely powerful? Do you want one with modest grunt, but which is extremely durable, safe, and sturdy? Alternatively, do you want one which is none of the above, but quite a lot cheaper than any of the rest? Obviously, this will depend on your individual situation and requests. However, let me give you a bit of advice here. If it is your first time - and this will be your first motorcycle, don’t go all out and get something completely out of your range. Just because one bike has a huge amount more power than another, doesn’t mean that it will be a better ride. Sure - it will be a faster ride - but is this really what you are buying a motor bike for in the first place?

After a little consideration, no doubt you will end up with a set of specifications matching exactly what you want. The next step is to go out, find a store that stocks motorbikes, and let them know of your needs. With any luck, you’ll have a new bike in no time.

Gas prices are on the rise, making the national average for a gallon of gasoline over $4.00. Long gone are the days of a family road trip to see the sights of the United States, or running down the street to the grocery store to pick up a gallon of milk. Soaring gas prices have consumers looking for ways to economize on fuel as much as possible. Some people won’t go to the store unless they have at least five items to purchase and two different stops to make. Others use their vacation time to visit places closer to home. Some consumers are looking for hybrid or electric vehicles. And still others are opting to ride a motorcycle whenever they can. Motorcycle purchases have been on the rise over the past decade. You can tell just by flipping through channels on the television on weekends. There are numerous different television shows dedicated to the building of custom bikes and choppers. It is not just the stereotypical renegade who enjoys the feeling of the wind in their hair, riding on the open road. In more recent years, it is everybody from the office worker to the stay-at-home mom who is seen riding on a motorcycle.

According to this website, the purchase of motorcycles has increased as much as 24% from 2001-2005 than were sold in the entire decade of 1990-2000. That is a staggering amount of sales! There are so many different kinds of motorcycles on the market, that just about anybody can find a style or type suitable for them. From the Chopper to the Street bike, there are so many different models and sizes that riding a motorcycle has become an easier goal to achieve. With the increase of motorcycles on the road, there has also been an increase in the number of accidents related to new riders. This can be attributed to inexperience on a motorcycle. 80% of all motorcycle accidents occur with a rider who has been riding for 6 months or less. It goes to show that practice, patience, and experience will certainly pay off for riders of motorcycles on the open highway. Whether you choose to ride a motorcycle to commute to work, or as a leisurely rider on weekends, it is important to wear the proper protective gear.

If you get into an accident, your insurance, which can be obtained from Carole Nash, will increase in price. First and foremost, a good, quality helmet is one of the most important items a rider can have. It needs to be approved by the Department of Transportation, and needs to fit snugly and securely without impeding vision. You also should wear a jacket with elbow, shoulder, and back protectors. It needs to feel comfortable enough to maneuvers unimpeded, but give enough protection to keep injuries to a minimum. Eye protection is also a necessity when riding. Whether it is a face shield on your helmet, or a good, quality pair of sunglasses, most states requires eye protection for all riders. Gloves are another requirement by most states. A good pair of leather gloves will protect your hands, but also allow you to maneuver comfortably. If you want to buy motorbike insurance from Carole Nash, visit their website at www.carolenash.com

Just like you can get insurance on other vehicles, motor bike insurance is available for those who enjoy the excitement and rush that riding in the open air can bring. The tyoe of bike insurance you choose will of course vary depending on the use you have for the motorbike. For example, if you compete in off-road competitions, the chances of something going wrong with your bike are far great than if you were to simply ride on the road. Clearly, insurance companies will take this in to account when calculating prices for motorbike coverage.

So, just how expensive is motorbike insurance, and is it a necessary policy to take out on your bike? Well, as I recommend with basically anything which has wheels and moves - it’s extremely important. Even driving on the road has a certain risk to it. Most of the time, it’s not necessarily your fault, but the fault of someone else - perhaps someone less experienced than you. Therefore, should something adverse happen to your motorcycle by the fault of another - and they don’t have insurance either - it makes the process of recovering the cost of repairs particularly difficult.

Hence, I recommend that you purchase motorbike insurance the very moment you purchase a motorbike. This means that you won’t be driving without it, and hence won’t have to bear any risk of financial hardship at all. For help with finding places to purchase motorcycle insurance, read some of my other articles, or head straight out to the internet - search for a specific term such as “off-road motorbike insurance”, and filter through the results from there. Not only will you be surprised with the number of companies offering this type of insurance, but you may just find yourself a great deal in the process.
